Renewable Portfolio Standards
“A renewable portfolio standard (RPS) is a regulatory mandate to increase production of energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar, biomass and other alternatives to fossil and nuclear electric generation. It’s also known as a renewable electricity standard.” nrel.gov Wisconsin requires each of its electric providers to meet a unique RPS. For example, the 2015 RPS for Madison Gas & Electric stipulates that at least 7.73% of the electricity it sells to its retail customers come from renewable resources. http://psc.wi.gov/renewables/rpsCompliance.htm
