Where do we begin?

May… the month of May… What a fabulous month!
The Township of Dodgeville passed our resolution!
The Iowa County Board passed our resolution!
But does that mean the work is done? No, my friends, it does not. The work has just begun. We only have a year left before these towers attempt to invade our area. We need to get every section of this proposed route on board with OPPOSING these lines!!
But before we move forward… we need to take this moment to be grateful.
Grateful for Driftless Area Land Conservancy, for their commitment to our area and the funding for ELPC attorney, Howard Learner and their promotion and devotion to our plight.
Grateful to SOUL of Wisconsin for their continued consistent efforts to educate the public and bring in new people everyday to promote awareness of the lack of cost effectiveness for this project and the better path of green energy.
Grateful for all the hands behind the scenes working everyday by volunteering to do such things as making donations, erecting signage, developing handouts and flyers, attending functions and passing out literature, fund raising efforts, legal issues, environmental impact reports, area business awareness, social media, website development, photography… the list is tremendous! You all know what you do and we at Driftless Defenders say Thank You!
A few photos from the Iowa County Board meeting to follow along with a formal Thank you from our Leadership Team.
Good Day, Driftless Defenders, and what a good day it is!
Last night the Iowa County Board voted 16 to 1 to pass our resolution to oppose Cardinal-Hickory Creek! (Two Supervisors abstained from the vote and two were absent.)
Driftless Defenders and Driftless Area Land Conservancy wish to thank the Iowa County Planning and Zoning Committee for examining the transmission line issue with us, and making the decision to present to the full board their variation of our suggested resolution to oppose CHC. We thank the Iowa County Board for supporting us in our attempt to keep Iowa County free of ugly, obtrusive, unneeded and outmoded transmission lines.
We thank the public who came to show support for opposing the transmission lines. Attendance was estimated to be at least 150 people, requiring more chairs to be brought in, people needing to stand, and the crowd eventually spilling over into the halls. These are precisely the kind of numbers we need going forward to show our elected officials the importance of this issue and how committed we are to this cause.
Let’s take a moment to celebrate this huge step forward. But we must remember that our work is far from done, and we will follow up with suggestions for future actions.
With gratitude,
Driftless Defenders Leadership Team
